For me writing has always felt like praying, even when I wasn't writing prayers....You feel that you are with someone. I feel I am with you now, whatever that can mean...

For me I usually have to have someone in mind to receive what I am writing. In order for my writing to have any sort of meaning, there has to be a sort of intimacy in it. Maybe intimacy is too intimate of a word, but there has to be that closeness, that familiarity. And in order for it to have that, I have to imagine that I am writing everything TO a specific person. Even if what I am writing has nothing to do with a specific person, I still have to create that connection with someone. That created connection is what makes me feel not quite so alone.
